If I could give up one wish of mine to help this dad with his I would..I wish for a body free of disease. I wish for the chance to have another child with Rachel. I wish for the chance to comfort my boys when they get their hearts broken by a girl for the first time. I wish for the chance to take them to their first U2 concert. I wish for the chance to see them become men… to tell them how my heart swells with pride when I see what they have become. I wish for the chance to hold Rachel’s hand… to offer her my arm… to steady her in her old age. To tell her she’s still beautiful when a lifetime of smiles are visible on her face. I wish I understood why I have cancer. I wish for many things…. but most of all…. I wish for life.
This is the link to the blog of the guy who made the news today by sending a video message to his wife on her Birthday. The video is al over the web but the blog is truly inspirational get to it here how the light gets in in a world when we all get obsessed with ourselves take some time to read this and think of others. He has a 3 year old and a 18 month old baby.
This is the video if you haven't seen it.
I do not want to sit next to a gangly youths sued shoes, plonked on the seat next to mine on the train. Why do they have to put the feet on the seats on trains? And then compound the problem by telling his friend that he omitted to put on deoderant? Ok so his enterprising friend then produced a can of Lynx from his bag, only to spray himself, his friend and me. I'd rather suffer BO for one train trip than Lynx for a whole day!
I was watching a show on TV about two lovely guys who started a campsite on Harris, the Scottish Island, to visit their site click here.
It's such a lovely life, or so it seems, they had money worries they probably had arguments, they probably had days when it was bad. To many New Zealand looks like a place that you'd never come back from, look at the photo! But you know there were days when it rained, and rained and rained. There were days when it took me an hour to get over the bridge because the traffic was so bad. Money was tight, its an expensive place to live. It is a long way from any where. Yes it is simply stunning in parts and I guess if we had owned a camp site on the South Island and taken a 180 degree change in out lifestyle we may have stayed. Perhaps our mistake was to try and do there what we do here. In the end our parent our here, our culture is here our hearts are here in the uk. I love taking the girls to the tower of London, I know about it and the people who lived there. I loved the culture of the South Pacific but I love baguettes, cafe noir and pain au chocolait , it doesn't make me french!
Now I am faced with doing here what we should have probably done there, in New Zealand, what enterprise shall I choose?
All it takes is an acknowledgement, just a well mannered email to say that we are still considering your request or idea. Even a Yes or a No - something. Anyone familiar with NLP will know that there is no such thing as no reply, as a no reply is indeed a significant reply in itself. There is no such thing as no communication. This leaves me with a real sense of what did I do wrong or what's the matter with me - at least it could, I am strong enough to actually think, rude bastards, you don't know what you are missing.
One day I will stand proud and will say my piece, and woe betide anyone who didn't reply.
These guys represent the UK of 2009, it was a fantastic performance and a well deserved win. Inspired and I wish I could bottle everything they have. The media would lead one to think every young man in the UK is a knife carrying, drunken, sob, watch this and think again. With 30 years in entertainment behind me, this is once of the best most creative things I have ever seen.
Yeah! It is the weekend. for most fifty year old men I guess that means some time down the pub, working in the shed or going down the allotment. If could involve a trip to a sporting event, time with a partner a well earned rest. I'm taking three children under 5 to the photographers. It is a one hour drive, on a hot sunny day leaving early for a 10 am sitting. I know it will be a nightmare of not sitting still, tears and those words so familiar "I'm tired" and "I'm hungry." Becca will get cross driven by the shame she feels for our inevitably badly behaved children. Strangely it will be all my fault despite having nothing to do with booking the event, other than paying for it and being the father of the children in question.
I loved the movie, a romp and the have a birth at the top was inspired, instant chick flick status, Rebecca was hooked however, Political correctness will be the death of this 50 year old, ok over dramatic but really - was there any need in the totally classic split infinitive of all time.
Space: The final frontier These are the voyages of the Starship, Enterprise Its 5 year mission To explore strange new worlds To seek out new life and new civilizations To boldly go where no man has gone before
To replace MAN with PERSON, my goodness it is one of the classic intoructiona of any TV series anywhere, almost historic. They don't fix the grammar but they do make sure we are not sexist. Utterly madness. On one other point why were Scotties dilithium crystals passed over in favour of a dilithium chamber? I''d love to know JJ, do tell us?
So it all hurts, my leg, my ankle, my back. As one reaches the heady heights of fifty, those little knocks that you hardly noticed as a 19 year old, well they now seem to last for days - weeks - probably the rest of my life! Although my girls are 5 and twins of nearly 3, they are all capable of causing me large amounts of pain as they use me for climbing practice.
There is an upside, I sleep less so the general disturbances of nightmares and the final big molars breaking through don't impact on my life as much as a younger person. And why is it that all the sub 30 year olds have taken days off this week to sleep? My goodness we worked one weekend day until about 11pm and they are all wrecked for the week. I still get in earlier, leave later and look awake all day, I wish the same could be said of them. Plus I have a 2 hour commute at the beginning and end of every day.
Note to self only employ people over the age of 45 from now on.
Two people aged about 24 and neither knew Kings Lynn was in Norfolk, how can that be? It is beyond me. They can both name the winners of Big Brother in sequence and have the track list to Lilly Allen's album of pack, so they are not stupid. The most worrying thing is that they don't think its an issue. Now granted I can't give you the county name for every town in the UK but you know what I could have a bit of a stab because I bet I can point to most major town on an out line of the UK. Its the excuses that really get me, " I'm from up north" well I am from down south but I can point to Nottingham.
So it was my Birthday and I have decided to write a new blog and this is it. Its going to be about the things that inspire me and the things that drive me nutz. It is going to be about how these times affect my life and my family. It is a social commentary and it will pull not punches about the people who really are a pain in the arse. From Fred the shed and MP's with no moral core to humans and the havoc they wreak. to 30 year old who don't know what a thorofare is. TO the so called millenials who whold have been born with a mouse in one hand and an iphone in the other and actualy have to ask me how to intall a font on their comuters. To people who leave the office before me and wonder whay that makes me want to sack them, but I can't because of employment laws that are crazy, health and safetly restriction that ruins there lives. Above all else, an education system that is deviod of competition that robs anyone under 35 of any competative edge. What place is there for me in 2009? A big place I think!
I am 50, it was my birthday on May 7th 2009 and I have reached that milestone. Now what? Is it 50 and beyond or is it 50 and beyond me? I guess the latter because...
I have more drive at 50 than most of the 20 year olds who work for me.
I know more about computers than anyone in my office yet they all treat me like I listen to a wireless and don't know an wii from a wee or a twit from a tweet.
I also seem to have a capacity for detail over and above almost anyone under 35. This makes me think they are a pain in the arse and makes them think I am an old fart. The fact is they don't seem to care, I do and I am, of course, right.
